Sheriff Douglas A. Eastes’ career path is a testament to dedication, service, and a commitment to justice. Raised in Wilmington, Ohio, he graduated from Wilmington High School in 1992 with an uncertain career trajectory. However, his sense of duty soon found direction when he pursued a degree in Criminal Justice at Wilmington College. Alongside his studies, he joined the United States Army Reserve, experiences that helped shape his path toward a career in law enforcement.
It was at Wilmington College that Eastes’ interest in law enforcement took root. During his time there, he met Julie, his wife, who would become his lifelong support system. He graduated in 1996, ready to pursue his newfound passion for serving his community. As the law enforcement field was competitive in the late 1990s, he seized an opportunity to meet Clinton County Sheriff Ralph D. Fizer, Sr., a well-respected leader in the community. Sheriff Fizer, Sr. encouraged Eastes to pursue his Ohio Peace Officer Certification, which he did by enrolling in the Southern State Community College Peace Officer Training Academy. Upon graduating from the academy in 1999, Eastes was sworn in as a Deputy Sheriff under Sheriff Fizer, Sr.
Eastes’ career has been marked by growth and accomplishment. Starting as a Road Patrol Deputy, he quickly advanced to detective. His first assignment was with the Warren-Clinton Drug Task Force, where he honed his skills as a narcotics detective. Over the years, he worked on a broad range of complex cases, including murder, armed robbery, rape, public corruption, and drug trafficking, among others. His investigative work has led to numerous convictions and fostered strong relationships with fellow law enforcement officers across the region.
Today, Sheriff Eastes serves as the Sheriff of Clinton County, a position he considers both an honor and a responsibility. He leads the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office with a deep commitment to honesty, integrity, and service to the community. With the support of his dedicated team, he strives to ensure that Clinton County remains a place where safety, justice, and trust thrive. Sheriff Eastes is grateful for the community’s trust and looks forward to continuing his service as their Sheriff.
